How a WRC complaint runs

Most claims are brought to the Workplace Relations Commission. The process is designed to be accessible, but presenting your case well still makes a real difference.

01
Lodge your complaint

A complaint is submitted to the WRC setting out the basis of your claim within the required time limit.

02
Adjudication hearing

An adjudication officer hears both sides and considers the evidence and the fairness of the process used.

03
Decision & remedy

If your claim succeeds, remedies can include compensation, reinstatement, or re-engagement.

!
Strict time limits apply

An unfair dismissal claim must usually be brought within six months of dismissal, extendable to twelve months only where there is reasonable cause for the delay. A statutory redundancy payment claim generally has a 52-week limit. If you have a concern, contact us promptly.

Where to start

If your role has gone, read Redundancy in Ireland. If you think the dismissal itself was unfair, read Think you’ve been unfairly dismissed?. If a claim is already under way, What actually happens at a WRC hearing explains what to expect on the day.
